Abstract

This paper examines the rule prohibiting character evidence in Anglo-American law and its codification in the U.S. Federal Rules of Evidence. It analyzes its application in People v. Weinstein and in the Argentine case Suárez (Buenos Aires Court of Cassation), where the admissibility of a prior conviction was debated in a sexual violence trial. Finally, it reflects on the challenges faced by the Argentine jury system in relation to this type of evidence.
