The Treatment of Self-Composition in the Chilean Environmental Judiciary Ten Years After Specialized Environmental Justice

Abstract

This paper addresses the state of the art regarding self-composition mechanisms in the process of remediation for environmental damage in cases heard by the Environmental Courts of Chile. In particular, it provides a comparative review of certain aspects to determine how jurisdictional equivalents have been treated by the Chilean Environmental Courts from their establishment in 2012 to 2022, primarily in quantitative terms, concluding with some reflections on the relevant findings.

    Lawyer, Bachelor of Legal Sciences from the Universidad Católica de Temuco, Master's in Law with a specialization in Natural Resources Law from the Universidad Católica del Norte, student of the Master's (LL.M) with a specialization in Regulatory Law from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and also holds a postgraduate degree in Environmental Law and Environmental Management Instruments from the Universidad de Chile. Currently, he is a First Officer at the First Environmental Court, focusing his practice on administrative, environmental, and procedural law.
